Content in my restlessness.

I was very hesitant to post this because it has been a very long time since I have sat down to write a poem.  I wrote a lot of poems throughout my K-12 years, many that would make you laugh, but are deeply personal to me.  However, I felt compelled to make this post a poem instead of my usual random rant.  So here goes:

I am content in my restlessness.
My mind wanders
dreaming up new plans

I am happy with the thought of change.
My heart is open
welcoming the restless experience

I am resistant to the notion of normal.
My soul refuses
definitions of any kind

I have adapted to this place.
My body rests
patiently waiting for the signal

I am only afraid of happiness.
My practicality disagrees
saying I am unacceptable

I have settled in my restlessness.
My life continues
basking in the beauty of uncertainty

Whittle

"He who trims himself to suit everyone will soon whittle himself away." ~Raymond Hull

We live in a world where people who sacrifice their personal health and well-being are seen as heroes and those that work to achieve balance between work and life are seen as selfish or lazy. We receive conflicting messages throughout our lives.  What we hear is not what we see.

What happens to these heroes when they sacrifice so much that there is nothing left for them or for their families? They whittle away, taking one chip at a time out of their emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Is it worth it in the end?

I will not trim myself to suit society or to keep up with the sacrifices of my coworkers.
I will not sacrifice my health and well-being for my career.
I will not compare myself to others.
I will not let others categorize or minimize my achievements.

Call me lazy, selfish, small-minded, lacking creativity and dedication.

Call me what you want, but when I'm 80 years old I don't want to look back on my life and say "I wish I'd taken better care of myself" and "I wish I'd spent more time with my family".

It's 5pm.  I'm going home.

America's Next Top Model

Sometimes I really wonder if Kelly thinks she is a model.  She is sure a ham in front of the camera.  Here are some of her best shots from a recent "photo shoot".

Contemplative Puppy

"Oh no you didn't"

Rigor mortis puppy

Ridiculous

So. Tired.

Dreaming of a better world puppy

Oh, no thank you, I'm not ready to get up yet.
